Memorial Day Walk in Woodland Cemetary with Historian Betsy Wilson
Join South Park’s neighborhood historian, Betsy Wilson, for another chapter in the history of the original residents of South Park as we visit their resting places in Woodland Cemetary and Arboretum. Meet at Woodland’s front gate on Monday, May 30th at 10am. Traditionally, neighbors bring flowers from their gardens in remembrance of our “ancestors” so vases and water are provided if you are so inclined. Expect to spend 90 minutes in a pleasant walk through Woodland’s shady and steep hills.
This year, Betsy took her cue from some of the homes on this spring’s Historic South Park Home Tour. Her research will focus on the working class families who built the homes or lived in them, and shed some light on the lives of laborers who plied their trades in Dayton in the early 1900s. While many,of course, worked at National Cash Register, society also needed the support of saloon keepers, brick layers, horse trainers, music teachers–and an acrobat? You’ll have to join the Walk to find out more! Wear your comfy shoes.
