It was a scene filled with shovels, pick-axes, a spud bar, jacks, chains, a Bobcat and hot sun. I think we all sweated off a few pounds working on the Tot Lot this morning! As you know, the kid-sized park on James and Adams was sorely in need of renovation. The privacy fence especially was weathered and vandalized. Trees and stumps needed removing. The wrought-iron sign and the swing sets needed paint. South Park decided to show it some love. Here’s the first article we wrote about it on May 12th. Plans had been in the works weeks before that.

With the determined leadership from Amy Kennedy and 100 volunteer hours in tear-out labor we are making great progress. South Park has since qualified for a $2,000 Mini-Grant from the City of Dayton based on the physical improvements we are contributing and the devotion of our volunteers. Our next step is putting up the new fence–and perhaps a few more nice touches after that, we’ll see.
