    HSPI CALL TO ARMS
HSPI wants you. All members are called upon, not to bear arms, but to arm yourself with your share of responsibility for the state of the neighborhood. HSPI is organizing to better serve our community by returning the organization to the committee-driven focus of the past.

All members are asked to pledge at least five hours per year through one of the "interest groups" described below:

Home Tour--Members work to organize and execute our next holiday home tour. This is typically our best-attended event of the year! Contact Eileen Whalen at 223-1882 or by email at ewhalen209 (at) gmail.com.

Anti-Crime-- Alert and connected neighbors are the best protection against neighborhood crime. The anti-crime committee collects crime-related info to improve communication between neighbors and police, and to enable quick response to clusters of property crime. Please report any neighborhood crime, no matter how small, to Kevin Moran at anticrime (at) historicsouthpark.org.

Housing and Development--Members focus on bringing outside investors and businesses into South Park's residential and business districts. The group will designate a liaison to the business districts. Members will also work to reduce blighted properties and environmental problems, such as trash and graffiti. For housing code related issues, contact Michael DiFlora at mdiflora (at) att.net, and for development-related issues, contact Karin Manovich at kmanovich (at) usa.net.

Marketing--Members will market South Park through news exposure, the web site, and other innovative methods. Contact Jill Davis at 5455davis (at) gmail.com.

Fundraising--The group will be involved in fundraising and grant writing for neighborhood improvements. Contact Karen Stephens for more information.

Parks--Members will work to improve and maintain the public parks of the neighborhood. Contact Winter Rowley at winterrowl (at) hotmail.com or 401-4142.

Social--Members will plan, organize and advertise social events in South Park. Contact Amy Kennedy at social (at) historicsouthpark.org.

Neighborhood Outreach--Members will identify and bank community resources to assist in meeting the needs of our neighbors. Contact Cheryl Bates at cheryl.a.bates (at) gmail.com or 222-0706.

Urban Reforestation--Members will work to get new trees planted in our public green spaces, as well as in tree lawns. We will also help educate residents on tree selection and care. Contact Mark Allen at m3allen (at) gmail.com or 829-5002.

Please choose your interest group and phone (or email) the HSPI officer listed as the contact. Be proactive and do this today! It will allow your HSPI officers to spend time working on their other neighborhood responsibilities, rather than phoning members to fill the interest groups.
