“When This Cruel War is Over” is the theme of the 2012 South Park Woodland Cemetery Memorial Day walk. We will mark the graves of South Park residents who shared the common thread of lives disrupted–for better or worse–by war. Included are a Civil War veteran pensioned for war injuries, a family whose German Bible ended up under the attic floorboards possibly because of World-War-I anti-German hysteria, and a slave freed by the Emancipation Proclamation who later wrote his former master from his South Park home and asked for compensation.
The walk commences at 10:00 Memorial Day morning. Meet just inside the gate. You are welcome to bring flowers from your yard to help mark these graves.
