Community Reports/Presentations

Mediation Response Unit, Dayton Ohio (MRU). – For the last three years, the MRU has served as alternative emergency response program responds to non-emergency, nonviolent police calls and referrals with a team of trained responders who have experience in de-escalation, conflict resolution, and community development. They cannot take mental health cases. The MRU monitors the same call board as the police. Available M-F 8am-8pm, you can call 937- 333-COPS and ask for them. Their direct line is 937-333-2333.

They do carry emergency resources such as food, clothes etc. They will refer people to Goodwill Easter Seals and other resources and can transport individuals to hospitals and homeless shelters.

Dayton Police crime report. – A lost boy was found. The May 22nd NATO fireworks were done without notifying the public for security reasons. The NATO organizers were concerned too many people would come downtown to see the fireworks and increase risk for visiting the NATO delegates.

There will be Fireworks for Independence Day at Kettering Fields. Thursday, July 3, 2025 Kettering Field (444 N. Bend Blvd).

City of Dayton Community Engagement – Celebrate World Refugee Day June 21st 11am-2pm, Dayton Metro Library – Main Branch, 215 E Third St. Join this annual community event and learn more about refugees who have fled their countries and made Dayton their home.

  1. Emerson School Rerouting of traffic and landscaping- completed!
  2. Thank you to all who volunteered for Earth Day!
  3. Special thanks to Riley and Sarah Dugan and all the hosts for a most enjoyable neighborhood NATO nations party
  4. All the limestone from the old parking lot retaining wall that was donated to HSPI from Emerson has been sold – HSPI earned $1000 from the sale.

Marketing/Social

  • Everyone is invited to attend a Pride Picnic, Fri June 6th Blommel Park 5-7:30pm. Bring a dish to share.
  • South Park Yard Sale to be held on June 14th. June 7th is the last day to submit your home address for the yard sale and be included on the shoppers map.

Membership

  • HSPI has 35 paid members year to date.

Anti Crime

  • For everyone’s safety, please keep your dogs on a leash.

Preservation Dayton Inc. (PDI)

  • If you buy anything at Siebenthalers and use code SPH, 10% of the sale will be donated to HSPI.
  • Weekly guided walking tours of historic downtown Dayton run every Friday throughout the summer, from 5:30 -7 pm. at 5:30 pm. Please register for the tour, which is 1.5 miles and takes 90 minutes.

New Business – none

 Announcements

  • Elizabeth Horner will steward a new Little Free Library and will work with the city to come up with a new location. It was previously at 500 Hickory.
  • Everyone is welcome to attend meetings of the Dayton Environmental Advisory Board (EAB) the 2nd Friday of every month at 12noon-1pm at the Water Admin Building 320 W. Monument. The EAB is a group of community members who advise on environmental concerns. Its role is to protect, maintain, and improve the quality of the environment in Dayton, ensuring city operations are environmentally sound.
