HSPI General Meeting Minutes

Hope Lutheran Church, 500 Hickory

Call to order: 7:00 pm

President Mark Manovich chaired the meeting.

Introductions

Guest Speakers
Michelle from Dayton Department of Recreation promoted the city rec centers. Northwest, Lohrey, and Greater Dayton. They offer fitness centers, pools, volleyball, pickleball etc. There are discounts for students.

A representative from Dayton City Commission: The State of the City report presented by Mayor Mims is Feb 12th at 6pm at the Kroc Center (1000 N Keowee St).

The United Way offers free help for filing tax returns.  Income Tax assistance sites are available throughout Montgomery and Greene Counties. For more info call the United Way of Greater Dayton 937-913-2000.

Police Report

One robbery occured at Family Dollar at Wayne & Clover. Police are working with Family Dollar to move more expensive items away from entry doors to try and deter theft.

Members asked police to check on Fix or Cell now, in case they are violating the rule for a license to sell cannabis products.

Presidents Report- Mark Manovich

  • Emerson School Traffic update- construction is well underway to divert traffic off of Hickory Street to Buckeye Street.
  • Wayne Ave Traffic- the city is still working on Wayne to widen and repave. There will be new painted lane lines with a center turn lane as well as an island in a new crosswalk/pedestrian island between Kroger and Walgreens.
  • Safe Street Survey- Mark encouraged residents to fill this out. (Safe Streets Survey: Go here  The City of Dayton received a Safety Action Plan Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to develop a comprehensive safety action plan for Dayton’s roadway network. The action plan will be completed in 2025.)
  • Route 35 Study based on the City’s expected award of a $2 million study grant – There’s a survey on city of Dayton website. Mark to get more info
  • The City has been busy updating several reporting, tracking, and transparency tools available to residents.

  • Veritas Community Church is taking over the property title to the 500 Hickory Street building that has housed Hope Lutheran Church for decades. HSPI meetings and events will still be held here.
  • Liberty High School (they wanted to construct a new building on the corner of Wyoming and Wayne) – No updates.

 

Committee Reports

Social. Feb 1 Chili cook off, 5 pm at 500 Hickory. February 15 Euchre tournament 7pm at 500 Hickory.

Parks. Outdoor Christmas decorations are down

Membership. Membership forms are available to sign up.

Block Captains. Trying to determine if handing out flyers door to door is worth the expense and time

Housing/Development. 911-913 Wayne has been declared a structural nuisance. No one is permitted in this building. If you see someone going in or out let Karin know ([email protected])

New Business

The HSPI 2025 proposed provisional budget was reviewed by members and approved.

Announcements from neighbors

  • Thurs Feb 20th – Free flow Box will receive a portion of sales at 5th Street Brew Pub
  • Thurs Feb 20th –South Park Cat Care Collective hosting trivia at South Park Tavern at 7pm
  • Galen and Betsey Wilson attended the Immigration Summit at UD. See Galen for questions/info.
  • Twin Towers is starting a neighborhood website check it out at TwinTowersDayton.org
