The Saturday after Thanksgiving Day is traditionally Small Business Saturday – a day to shop small businesses and appreciate all they do for their communities. Lucky for us, South Park businesses bring diversity and vibrancy to the neighborhood! And they have generously supported neighborhood events and initiatives over the years. This year, we gave away South Park Lady shopping bags to neighbors who praised their favorite local “top-notch shops”! (If you’ve got favorites to add, email [email protected].) The Quality District
“I love many South Park small businesses: Ghostlight Coffee and Wholly Grounds make fantastic coffee, Custom Frame Shop is a museum quality framer, Branch & Bone brews up a cornucopia of delicious & interesting ales, Pizza Factory bakes pizza that is a cut above the rest, South Park Tavern is a great neighborhood pub, Jimmie’s Ladder 11 is a wonderful kitchen and pub, Coco’s is a beautiful dining establishment, The Next Wave produces world class advertising, and the list goes on. Maybe the South Park business district should be called “The Quality Corridor” or “Quality District” with all the top-notch shops.” — Bill D.
“We have so many favorites! We have never had a bad experience at any of the local places but I think I have to say that South Park Tavern has really been great this year! We have eaten there and done carry out and they are always friendly and so eager to help! — Laura R.
Intelligent and Intriguing
“My favorite small business in South Park is BW House Histories. It is the most interesting, intelligent and intriguing small business in all of Dayton!” — Judith H.
The Art Whisperer
“I had the pleasure of working with Dave at Custom Frame Services on the framing of an artwork that was almost as tall as him and needed a little extra care due to its fragile nature. The resulting frame was spectacular – Dave considered all of the complexities of how to stabilize the large-scale artwork and was sensitive to letting the artwork stand-out in its custom frame. His willingness to find the right solutions and professionalism to honor an artist’s vision make Custom Frame Services the best in Dayton!” — Shayna M.
Big Fans
“Me and my husband really enjoy Biggby Coffee. I love the building and the vibes there. Customer service is wonderful, and the coffee is so good! Another business is Family Dollar right here in the neighborhood with great stuff when you’re in a hurry or just want to take a nice walk there!” — Alex M.
“We’re frequent flyers of Biggby Coffee and The Original Pizza Factory! Biggby’s ice coffee is some of the best and Pizza Factory’s gluten-free crust is my favorite!” — Alexandra D.
It’s a Paradise
“My wife and I love to shop at Bird of Paradise Plant Collective in South Park.” — Mike S.
Conversation, Romance & Family
“Ghostlight Coffee is a lovely neighborhood spot for coffee, pastries and conversation!” — M. H.
“My partner & I just bought a house here this year. We started dating when we worked together at Ghostlight Coffee. Walking in the neighborhood & past our iconic Dayton coffee house is a walk down memory lane every day!! if it weren’t for this South Park small business, my whole life would be different. It’s hard to top that!” — Natalie H.
“Our family loves going to Ghostlight Coffee, especially now that it is hot chocolate season! We always end up with a tasty treat or two!” — Eric K.
A Silver Lining
“One of the local small businesses we love is in our neighborhood! The Silver Slipper has been a regular haunt for us since it opened. The drinks and food are wonderful, and the people are always so kind and welcoming!!” — Lindsey R.
“We love The Silver Slipper!” — Matt & Amanda W.
“We love so many of the businesses in South Park. We especially frequent Silver Slipper. It feels like it’s both of the past and future. The decor is chic and screams cool but has coziness as if it’s been there a lifetime. You’ll be introduced to wine and drinks while being able to have your classics too. It’s simply one of the best spots in Dayton.” — Amanda G.
International Flavor
Halal International Market (read about them here) has super reasonable prices and you can get things there that you can’t get anywhere else – like three kinds of Feta – all from different countries. Fresh apricots, dates, Labne which is a kind of cream cheese with a lemony kick, and Halal meat. They have bulk chocolates from Russia, fresh pita – ask for the Jasmine brand – and baklava ala carte or by the big box.

They Never “Tire” of Helping
Wayne Tire Center is the place to go when you need a tire patched, or just air in your tire. Hardest working guys on the block. Places like Walmart or Costco will tell you – especially if you have 4 wheel drive – that if one tire blows you have to replace all 4. Here’s where the other 3 tires go. And you can get a tire replaced for a lot less. They’ll even fix your wheelbarrow tires. Great guys. — David E.
